An exciting journey through Te Wai Pounamu (South Island) awaits. Starting from Nelson, you will weave your way down to Queenstown. From navigating a Waka through the sunny waters in the Abel Tasman National Park to the glacier icebergs on Tasman Lake and the incredible Milford Sound. This cultural and nature tour is the pinnacle tour for those wanting an educational experience delivered by the magic of the South Island.

 

Day 1

 

Welcome to Nelson, the sunshine capital on New Zealand at the top of the South Island. You will be met by your guide before heading into the city.

 

Take a stroll along the picturesque Tahunanui Beach. Walk along Maitai River before heading to the Botanic Reserve, the site of New Zealand’s very first rugby game. This is also the base track to the Centre of New Zealand, and wonderful views across the Nelson region.

Day 2

Travel north to Kaiteriteri for an amazing adventure in the Abel Tasman National Park.  Your guided Waka tour includes a paddle along the coast to Split Apple Rock –Toka Ngawhā, a beautiful location and one of the Abel Tasman coastline's most iconic spots.  You will learn the etiquette (tikanga) associated with waka before embarking on our journey (haerenga). An exciting team building experience as you work with your other travelling companions to navigate your waka through the coastal waters.

Day 3

Heading south down the east coast of the South Island to the seaside town of Kaikoura. Famous for it’s whales, dolphins and seals, your 2 hour cruise from Kaikoura immerses you in the marine wildlife the area is renowned for.  After your cruise you will continue south down the coast to Christchurch for the night.  An entertaining even awaits you at Ko Tāne Māori Experience, including an official welcome,  interactive Māori Village, stage performance and traditional Hāngī meal.

Day 4

The day starts with a tour of Canterbury Museum and the exhibition that explores the aftermaths of the devastating earthquakes in 2010 & 2011, the resilience of Canterbury’s communities and the extraordinary and heroic response of the emergency services and  international rescue teams.

 

Take a highlights sightseeing tour of Christchurch before heading the beautiful Lake Tekapo. Then a short drive to Mt Cook (Aoraki), New Zealand’s tallest mountain where you will be staying the night. After dinner, if the sky is clear, enjoy a Big Sky Star Gazing tour.

Day 5

They day starts with a Glacier Explores Tour. Experience icebergs at the foot of New Zealand's largest glacier, the Tasman Glacier. Learn about the effects on the environment in this ever-changing glacial landscape as your boat journeys across the lake.

 

You will then continue to Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand. Dinner tonight is high above the township at the top of the gondola at Bobs Peak for spectacular views.

Day 6.

A day to explore some of the vast array of optional experiences in Queenstown for which it is famous for. From jet boating, luging, hiking, LOTR locations tours, lake cruises, farm tours or frisbee golf to name just a few.

Day 7

An early start today as you head through to Te Anau, then along the incredible Milford Road with a number of stops for photos shows along the way. View Mirror Lake or the cheeky Kea’s that congregate near the Homer Tunnel. Then drop down into Milford Sound for a 2.5 hour Nature Cruise in this breathtaking landscape.  Return to Queenstown for your last night on tour.

Day 8.

Your tour ends today as you say your farewells, and depart from Queenstown Airport on your flight back to Auckland.
